Question 334962: the topic says measuring segments
there a line segment with the point G, H, I
QUESTIONS:
1. If GH=31 and HI=11 then GI=?
2. If GH=45 AND GI =61 then HI=?
THEN next paragraph read:GH= 7Y+3, HI= 3Y-5, and GI= 9Y+7
a. what is the value of Y?
b. Find GH, HI, and GI.
**PLEASE PLEASE IF YOU CAN MAYBE EXPLAIN HOW YOU GOT YOUR ANSWER THE BEST AND MOST EXPLANATORT STEP BY STEP WAY YOU POSSIBLY CAN**
Thank you soo much for your time i have to resort to this because my teacher is the kind that expects you to know everything and cant teach or explain no matter what..

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the topic says measuring segments
there a line segment with the point G, H, I
Draw the line segment GI. Put H between G and I.
QUESTIONS:
1. If GH=31 and HI=11 then GI= GH+HI = 31+11 = 42
-----
2. If GH=45 AND GI =61 then HI= GI-HG = 61-45 = 16
----------------------------------------------------
THEN next paragraph read:GH= 7Y+3, HI= 3Y-5, and GI= 9Y+7
Apply that information to the line segment you drew.
---
a. what is the value of Y?
Since GI = GH+HI
9Y+7 = 7Y+3+3Y-5
9Y+7 = 10Y-2
Y = 9
---------------------------
b. Find
GH = 7Y+3 = 7*9+3 = 66
HI = 3Y-5 = 3*9-5 = 22
GI = 9Y+7 = 9*9+7 = 88
