Question 333701: Find the choice below which gives a first step in solving the given system of equations by the addition method.
2x - 3y = 7
x - 4y = 2

Answer by Edwin McCravy(20064)      (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Multiplying the second equation by -2. [That's to make the x in the
second equation become a -2x so that when you you add the two equations,
like term by like term, you will be adding a 2x and a -2x which will give
0, or as you might say, "the x-terms will cancel out".]
