let driving speed =x
train speed = x+32
..
time by drive = 36 minutes . 36/60 hours=3/5 hours
time by train = 20 minutes. 20/60 hours = 1/3 hours
..
the distance is the same to his work place
..
distance = speed * time
3x/5 = 1/3 *(x+32)
3*3x=5*(x+32)
9x=5x+160
add -5x
9x-5x=5x-5x+160
4x= 160
divide by 4
x=40 miles.
