Let the two numbers be x and y
given:
x - y = 47
given one number is three times more than five times the other
so let x be that number
x = 3+5(y)
therfore here we have two equations
x - y = 47 which implies x = y+47
x - 5y = 3
47+y-5y = 3 (substituting the value of x)
4y = 44
y = 11
x = 58

FIRST FORM EQUATIONS WITH THE INFORMATIONS GIVEN IN THE QUESTION.

let the numbers be X & Y,
The diff. of the two numbers is 47 and is written as,
EQ 1. X - Y = 47

EQ 2. X = 3 + 5*Y
Put the value of X (FROM EQ 2) IN EQ 1 .,

3 + 5Y - Y = 47
4Y = 47 -3
Y = 44/4
= 11.
PUT Y = 11 IN EQ 1.,
we get X = 47 + 11
= 58.
The numbers are 58 and 11.
