Question 328614: Grace has 16 jellybeans in her pocket. She has 8 red ones, 4 green ones, and 4 blue ones. What is the minimum number of jellybeans she must take out of her pocket to ensure that she has one of each color?
Probability has always been a weak area for me. The answer is 13, but I'm not sure how to arrive at that answer. Is it as simple as adding 8+4+1? This would represent picking out all of the red ones, all of the green ones, and then finally picking out one of the blue ones.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
yes , it is that simple

a lot of probability questions can be solved with "thought experiments" and common sense
