Question 32807: I am unsure of how to answer this question at all. I have used the school's online system and have gotten nowhere.
The question is: The probability that San Francisco plays in the next Super bowl is nine times the probability that they do not play in the next Super Bowl. The probability that San Francisco plays in the next Super Bowl plus the probability that they do not play is 1. What is the probability that San Franscisco plays in the next super bowl?
I tried setting it up like this: 9(x) and
9+x=1

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Try this:
Let x = the probability that San Francisco plays. The probability that they do not play is, therefore 1 - x. Now you can set up the equation.
x = 9(1-x) Solve for x.
x = 9-9x Add 9x to both sides.
10x = 9 Divide both sides by 10.
x = 0.9
