Let's multiply the number of questions by the point value to determine the total number of points possible for the test:
20 * 3 = 60.
So the test is worth 60 points.
The student scored 48 points out of 60 points. Next we determine the percentage the student answered correct:
48 / 60 = .80
The student scored 80% or .80 on his / her test. Now we take this .80 to determine the actual amount of problems the student got correct.
