Let the distance from wall be x
Ladder length = x+6
Height at which ladder touches the wall = 18 feet.
They form a right triangle with ladder as hypotenuse
x2+182= (x+6)2
x2+324= x2+12x+36
x2-x2-12x=-324+36
-12x=-288
x=-288/-12
x=24 distance from the wall.
Length of ladder = 24+6 = 30 feet
