Question 326923: Solve the equation using substitution
x-9=3y
x+2y= -1
Answer by AAfter Search(61) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! x-9=3y
=> x - 3y = 9...... (i)
x+2y= -1 .... (ii)
By (i) - (ii), we get
-5y = 9 + 1 = 10
y = 10/(-5) = - 2
From (i) x - 3(-2) = 9
=> x = 9 - 6 = 3
Hence, the solution set is (3, -2)
Check: for (3,-2) Equation (i) becomes
3 - 3(-2) = 3 + 6 = 9
Equation (ii) becomes
3 + 2(-2) = 3 - 4 = -1
