Question 326600: If you draw a card from a 52 card deck what is the probability of drawing a jack of hearts given
a)The Card drawn is a red card
b)The card drawn is a heart
c)The card drawn is a jack
d)The card drawn is a spade
What I've tried so far.
a)On this problem I'm not sure what kind of prob to use. wether the fraction or nCr. But the way I approached this problem I did prob of a jack of hearts is 1/52 since there is only one of that specific card. And the card is a red card is half of that since it's either black or red. so 1/26 is my guess.
However, for b), I am not sure how to get the answer there. Answer by solver91311(24713) (Show Source):
If you just draw a card out of a deck, then yes the probability that it is the jack of hearts is . There is exactly 1 jack of hearts and there are 52 possibilities.
But the first three givens change your denominator. There are only 26 red cards, 13 hearts, and 4 jacks, so , , and .
The last given changes both numerator and denominator. There are 13 spades so your denominator goes to 13, but zero of the spades are the jack of hearts, hence -- guaranteed to lose.
