Question 326117: Hi,
I was wondering if you can help me to solve a percentage word problem on my Compass Test Assessment sample. Right now, I'm stuck with the problem number 11 and 12.
Here is the sample for percentage word problem:
11. On a math test, 12 students earned an A. This number is exactly 25% of the total number of students in the class. How many students are in the class?
12. This year, 75% of the graduating class of Harriet Tubman High School had taken at least 8 math courses. Of the remaining class members, 60% had taken 6 or 7 math courses. What percent of the graduating class had taken fewer than 6 math courses?
Answer by scott8148(6628) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! 11. 25% is one quarter ; so the whole class would be four quarters , or four times 12
12. 25% is the remaining class members (100% - 75%)
of that 25% , 40% (100% - 60%) took fewer than six math courses
40% of 25% is ___ .4 * .25 = .1 ___ or ___ 10%
