Let the amount of nickels be x
Let the amount of dimes be y
x+y=28
y=28-x (subsitution)
Dime value x 100 = 10
Nickels value x 100= 5
Total value x 100 = 260
Equation:
5x+10(28-x)=260
5x-10x=260-280
-5x=-20
x=4
y=28-4
y=24
Hence, there are 24 dimes and 4 nickels.
