Question 32571: Dear tutors,
Please explain to me how to solve this problem.

A stamping machine produces 100 gaskets per hour. When this machine works with a newer machine, the two machines, working simultaenously and independently at their respective constant rates, produce a total of 2,000 gaskets in 8 hours. How many gaskets does the newer machine produce per hour?
Thanks and regards,
Tolly

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Prodcution rate of existing stamping machine is 100 gaskets/hr
Existing machine produces 800 gasket in 8 hours.
The new machine must produce 1200 gaskets in 8 hours, implying the production rate of the new stamping machine as 1200/8 = 150 gaskets per hour.
