d/40 time taken for first leg of the trip.( speed = 40mph)
d/60 time taken for second leg of the trip ( speed = 60 mph)
d/40+d/60= 2
3d+2d / 120 = 2
5d= 240
d=48 miles.
X to Y will be 96 miles.
Time taken = 2hours
Average speed = 96/2= 48 mph
