the measures of two complementary angles are in the ratio 4:1. what is the measure of the smaller angle?
-----------------------------------
4:1 is the same as 4x:x
----
Since the angles are complementary,
4x+x = 90
5x = 90
x = 18 degrees (smaller angle)

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
4R+1R=5R
5R=90
R=90/5
R=18 DEGREES ANS. FOR THE SMALLER ANGLE.
4R=4*18=72 DEGREES FOR THE LARGER ANGLE.
PROOF:
18+72=90
4:1=72:18
72=4*18
72=72
