Question 324100: Im having trouble with a certain problem it is
-20 - (-50) = x/9
I need to solve the equation.
I am slo having difficulty with the negitive and positive numbers with adding subtracting etc

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
-20 - (-50) = x/9
1)First, you have to make the -50 into a positive 50. Think of it this way. If you put a one after the minus, then it becomes -1*-50.
New equation: -20+50 = x/9
2)Now that that is done, add the 50 to the -20 (or subtract 20 from 50). Either way, you will get 30.
New equation: 30 = x/9
3)Finally, you have to make x/9 equal 1 in order to get x by itself. So, multiply both sides by 9 and you will have your answer.
Final equation: 270 = x

Adding Negative Numbers
When you are adding negative numbers to positive numbers, it is the same as
subtraction. Just subtract the negative number from the even number.
24 + (-5) = x
24 - 5 = x
19 = x
Subtracting Negative Numbers
When you subtract a negative number, the negative always turns into a
positive number.
17 - (-9) = x
17 + 9 = x
26 = x
Multiplying Negative Numbers
If both numbers you are multiplying are negative numbers, then the answer
will be positive. If one number is negative and the other is positive, then
the answer will be negative.
(-7)*(-4) = x
28 = x
(-8)*5 = x
-40 = x
