Question 32310: Good Evening Sir , Can you help me in how to solve linear equations in two variables & its Word problems . ( I am having confussion . Tahnk's )
Answer by mszlmb(115) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Linear equations, such as y=2X+2, have an infinite amount of answers. This is because the y changes and so does the x. so if x is one number, y is another. for example, if x was 2, y would be 2(2)+2, or 6. However, if it were 5, y would be 12. This is why there is an infinite amount of answers. Were y or x given, however, one could solve for the other variable, but that is no longer a linear equation.
Here is the graph for y=2X+2

If you look closely enough, the computer screen shown not a line in this graph, but dots. Each of these dots is between a y intercept and an x intercept. For y=6, the dot would be at y=6 and x=2. check for yourself!
It is therefore impossible to 'solve' an equation, but to give its potential measure shortly, or to call the answer an infinite array.
The computer screen is, of course, limited to pixels of light, that is the reason for its dots. The line is still only many dots, but no matter how close you were to zoom in, there would still be dots. That is why there are an infinite array of answers for any given linear equation.
Notice finally that the graph crosses the y axis (the up and down 2d plane) at 2 and goes 2 up and 1 over. the 2 up and one over is 2/1, and the 2 up on the y axis is the +2. there fore, our linear equations in y=mx+b form are all y=slope(x)+interception on the y axis.
