Question 323070: Please, I need help with these two problems. They need factored by grouping and checked Thank you for your help. I think it is x(x²+y)2xy²(x+y) but not sure.
x³y+2x²y²+xy³
x³+av+3a+3x² This one I have no idea how to solve.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x³y+2x²y²+xy³
First, take out the COMMON FACTOR of xy
Now, what is left is a trinomial that factors like this:
or
The second problem is a grouping problem, where you group the first two terms together, and the second two terms. I think you miscopied the problem, so I will fix it the way I think it should be written:
x³+av+3a+3x²

I think FACTORING is a very important topic, and I have a LOT of resources on my own website related to this topic. Why don't you take a look at my explanation, and see if it is easier to understand than the one in your textbook. You can find my own website by clicking on my tutor name "rapaljer" anywhere in algebra.com. From here, you can see and click on my website.
From my Homepage, click on the link "Basic, Intermediate, and College Algebra: One Step at a time." Choose "Basic Algebra", and look in "Chapter 2" for several topics on Factoring, especially "Factoring the Common Factor", "Factoring Trinimials", and "Factoring by Grouping." In addition to my own personal explanation of these topics, many of the exercises in this curriculum are solved in the "MATH IN LIVING COLOR" sections that go with it.
You can also see FREE videos of these topics from the website. To see the videos, look for the topic on my Homepage called "Rapalje Videos in Living Color." These videos are recordings of my own classes back a few years before I retired. You may need to download RealPlayer (which is also a FREE download!) in order to view the videos.
Try my curriculum! I wrote it especially for students who have trouble with math! And it's all FREE!!

You can put this solution on YOUR website! x³y+2x²y²+xy³
..
x³y+x²y²+x^2y^2+xy³
..
x^2y(x+y)+xy^2(x+y)
x^2y+xy^2(x+y)
..
(x+y)xy(x+y)
xy(x+y)^2
..
x³+av+3a+3x² instead of v it should be x , I think
x³+av+3a+3x²
