You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let the quarters be x
Let the nickels be y
x+y=53
y=53-x (subsitution)
Quarter value x 100 = 25
Nickel value x 100 = 5
TOtal value x 100 = 605
25x+5y=605
Subsitute for y:
25x+5(53-x)=605
25x-5x=605-265
20x=340
x=17
y=53-17
y=36
Hence, there are 17 quarters and 36 nickels.
