Suppose you were standing on the 'cliff' 100 meters above the ground and looking striaght ahead toward the horizon, then you looked down 45 degrees. That is the angle of depression.
So, this is just the law of tangents.
100tan(45)-100cot(60)=100-100sqrt%283%29%2F3=42.265 meters apart
or, another way
100tan(45)-100tan(30)=42.265 meters apart.
