You can put this solution on YOUR website! A dart hits a dartboard that is in the shape of a square with sides of 4 m. There are four congruent circles inside the square that are all touching. The shaded region is everything but the 4 circles. What is the probability that the dart will land in a circle?
-----------------
Draw the pictures and you will see the diameter of each of the
circles is 2 m; so each radius is 1m.
So the area of each circle is pi sq meters.
So the area of the four circles is 4pi sq meters.
---
The area of the square is 16 sq meters.
---------------
P(land in a circle) = 4pi/16pi = 1/4 = 25%
