SOLUTION: factor completely 5X2 + 20X - 60 (note the 2 is squared) What I have for work is
=5(x2 + 5(4x) + 5(-12)
=5(x2 + 4x -12)
I think this is correct but not sure if there is more

Question 317905: factor completely 5X2 + 20X - 60 (note the 2 is squared) What I have for work is
=5(x2 + 5(4x) + 5(-12)
=5(x2 + 4x -12)
I think this is correct but not sure if there is more to be factored. Email address is 9-iron@wctc.net Found 2 solutions by stanbon, Earlsdon:Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! factor completely 5X2 + 20X - 60 (note the 2 is squared) What I have for work is
=5(x2 + 5(4x) + 5(-12)
=5(x2 + 4x -12)
----
OK so far.
-----
To factor further,
think of two numbers whose product is -12 and whose sum is 4.
---
The numbers are +6 and -2
---
Rewrite the problem as:
= 5(x^2 +6x-2x -12)
Factor to get:
= 5[(x(x+6)-2(x+6)]
Factor again:
= 5(x+6)(x-2)
