2016x - 1296 = -1296
-2016x/-2016 = -720/-2016
X=5/14 (this is my answer) (book answer is 1/8)

Not completely sure why you thought you needed a lowest common denominator.

Just multiply across the binomials using the distributive property. The fractions will take care of themselves:
