Question 3166: Solve for x and graph the solution set on a number line:
-18 < 6x - 7 < or equal to 17.
I feel like an idiot. I understand how to graph this on a number line but can't figure out how to isolate x.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
No point feeling like an idiot :-)

Treat both parts separately, and solve them:

-18 < 6x-7
-11 < 6x
6x > -11
x > -11/6

this is one answer. Now for the other:

6x - 7 <= 17
6x <= 24
x <= 3

so the answer that satisfies both parts is that:

-11/6 < x <= 3

ie any number between -11/6 and 3 satisfies both parts - so draw a number line of this.

Hope this helps? :-)
