So for this one we need to just use algebra:
 
3(x-7) = -3
 
So first we use distribution with the parenthesis
 
Note: you always start with parenthesis:
 
3(x) - 3(7) = -3
 
Then:
 
3x - 21 = -3
 
Then we want x all by itself on one side, so we add 21 to both sides to get rid of -21 on the left side:
 
3x - 21 + 21 = -3 +21
 
3x = 18
 
Now, we divide each side by 3 to get rid of the 3 on the left side, so x will be alone:
 
3x/3 = 18/3
 
And we get:
 
x = 6
