You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The odds against an event are 9:8. Find the probability that the event WILL occur.

Learn these formulas:

ODDS IN FAVOR OF EVENT = SUCCESSES:FAILURES

ODDS AGAINST EVENT = FAILURES:SUCCESSES

PROBABILITY EVENT WILL OCCUR = SUCCESSES%2F%28SUCCESSES%2BFAILURES%29

So since odds against are 9:8, then FAILURES = 9 and SUCCESSES = 8

so,

PROBABILITY = SUCCESSES%2F%28SUCCESSES%2BFAILURES%29=8%2F%288%2B9%29=8%2F17

===
Rule: "odds against A" = P(not A)/P(A)
---
P(not A)/P(A) = 9/8
---
P(not A) = 9/17
---
P(A) = 8/17
