Question 315006: Here is my question,
In 1920 the record for a certain race was 45.5 sec, In 1990 it was 44.8 sec, Let R(t)= the record in the race and t= the number of years since 1920
A:Find a linear equation that fits the data
B:Use the function in (A) to predict the records in 2003 and 2006
C: Find the year that the record will be 44.54
This type of equation has me stumped
Thank you

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
in the 70 years between 1920 and 1990, the record decreased .7 sec
___ so it decreased .01 sec per year ___ this is the slope of the line

the intercept is the value in the starting year , 45.5

A. R(t) = -.01 t + 45.5

B. just plug in 83 and 86 for t

C. plug in 44.54 for R(t), and solve for t
