Question 314823: You are putting a stone border of uniform width around a rectangular garden that measures 6 yards by 15 yards. You only have enough stone to cover 100 square yards. How wide should the border be?

I am factoring polynomials and i have to use the five step problem solving strategy.
Let x=width of border
so i set it up
0=x+6ft*15feet-100
But i don't think that right can you help
Thank You!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let the stone width be x yards
..
the width and length of garden = 6 yards and 15 yards
the width of the plot including the stone will be 6+2x
The length will be 15+2x
The area of the plot including the stone = (2x+6)(2x+15)
The area of the total plot - area of garden = arae of the stone.
..
(2x+6)(2x+15)-15*6 = 100
4x^2+30x+12x+90-90=100
4x^2+42x-100=0 ( divide by 2)
2x^2+21x-50=0
2x^2+25x-4x-50=0
x(2x+25)-2(2x+25)=0
(2x+25)(x-2)=0
so x =2 yards the width of the stone
