Question 314650: fint the distance(-3,7)(6,-4)
Answer by Jstrasner(112) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Hey,
Well for this question you need to find the hypotenuse of the triangle that the two coordinates make.
You need to find the lengths of the two bases to find the length of the hypotenuse(distance) using the pythagorean theorem: a^2 + b^2 = c^2
So to find the vertical one, we use the y coordinates 7 and -4:
7-(-4) => 7+4=11
And then we use the x coordinates to find the horizontal one with -3 and 6:
6-(-3)=6+3=9
So we plug these into the theorem:
9^2 + 11^2 = c^2 => 81 + 121 = 202 => c^2 = 202
Find the square root of both sides and you get:14.21...Which is the distance
I hope this helps!
