You can put this solution on YOUR website! Now, suppose you are entered in a driving contest and you are expected to maintain an average speed of 60 MPH for two miles. Unfortunately, your engine develops a miss, and you can only maintain 30 MPH for the first mile. How fast must you drive the second mile to meet the overall average speed requirement?
I have tried the obvious answer, 90 mph, and my teacher told me to put on my thinking cap..so
-------------------------
Figure out the time required to drive the 2 miles if you average 60 mph.
--------------
Then figure out how much time you have already used indriving the 1st
mile at 30 mph.
--------------
Now, how much time do you have left after you drive the 1st mile?
Hummmmm???/
Cheers,
Stan H.
