#1. x/16 + 5/8 = 1
#2. 20/x -6/7 = 2

1. x/16 + 5/8 = 1
x/16 + 10/16 = 1(=16/16)
then, x+10 = 16 so, x=6
2. multiply x in every term to get rid of x in denominator.
so, 20-6x/7 = 2x 20=2x+(6x/7)
=(14x+6x)/7
=20x/7
x should be 7 because 20=20 times 7/7
