Question 310894: Two legs of a right triangle are the same. The hypotenuse is 6 meters, what is the length of the legs? What is the formula for this?
I already know that a^2+b^2=C^2 I just don't understand how to solve for both legs with only the hypotenuse...please help!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
As per the qs "Two legs of a right triangle are the same." which means it is an isoceles rt angled triangle.
Let the sides be x
Hypotenuse= 6 mts
therefore we can write
x^2 + x^2 = 6^2
or, 2x^2=36
or, x^2 = 18 (Divided either sides by 2)
or, x = +-sqrt(18)
As x can only be positive we will take the positive value which is
sqrt%2818%29=+3sqrt%282%29

Two legs of a right triangle are the same.
The hypotenuse is 6 meters, what is the length of the legs? What is the formula for this?
:
If both legs are that same you can use the formula:
a^2 + a^2 = c^2
2a^2 = 6^2
2a^2 = 36
Divide both sides by 2
a^2 = 18
a = Sqrt%2818%29
a = sqrt%289%2A2%29
extract the perfect square
a = 3%2Asqrt%282%29 length of the equal sides
or
a = 4.2464 if they want the decimal value

Check it on your calc: enter sqrt%284.2464%5E2+%2B+4.2464%5E2%29 result: 6.00
