Question 310588: The smaller of two integers is one-third of the larger, and their sum is greater than 100. Find the smallest possible integers.
So far, I got this. x + 1/3 x = 100. Am I in the right direction? Answer by mollukutti(30) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! You are in the right direction. However as this is a question related to inequalities and not equations your equation needs to be re-written as
x + 1/3 x > 100
or, 3x+x > 300 (Multiplied either sides by 3)
or, 4x > 300
or, x > 75 (divided either sides by 4)
