Question 31041: What are the solutions to x%5E3%2B3x%5E2-x-3=0?
I know the answer is(-3,-1,1)but i'm not sure how to get that.
I have tried factoring an x, then trying to complete the square, which did not work out.
I have tried factoring and x, then using the quadratic formula...
and have tried polynomial division, yet i can't get that answer.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Solve:
x%5E3%2B3x%5E2-x-3+=+0 Factor.
%28x%5E2-1%29%28x%2B3%29+=+0 Factor the left parentheses.
%28x%2B1%29%28x-1%29%28x%2B3%29+=+0 Apply the zero products principle.
x%2B1+=+0 and/orx-1+=+0 and/orx%2B3+=+0
If x%2B1+=+0 then x+=+-1
If x-1+=+0 then x+=+1
If x%2B3+=+0 then x+=+-3
The roots are:
x = -1
x = 1
x = -3
