Question 30973: Two cars are traveling in the same direction on a road. The car that leads is traveling at 46 miles per hour. The other car is traveling at 70 miles per hour. How many miles apart will they be 30 minutes before the faster car catches the slower one? Found 2 solutions by Nate, Paul:Answer by Nate(3500) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! 30 minutes =0.5 hours:
Let the miles be x
equation:
46(x+0.5)=74(x-0.5)
46x+23=74x-35
24x=58
x=2.42 (rounded)
Hence, they will be 2.42 miles apart.However, this might not be the answer also because it depends on how far the cars are apart at there current status.
