If you'll recall that slope is "rise" over "run", then plot the two given points on a graph in which the horizontal axis (normally the x-axis) is the year and the vertical axis (normally the y-axis) is the price.
The slope, m+=+%28y%5B2%5D-y%5B1%5D%29%2F%28x%5B2%5D-x%5B1%5D%29 but in this problem you would replace the x-values with the year and the y-values with the price. So the slope would be:
m+=+%282.31-1.26%29%2F%282006-1997%29
