You are correct in saying that %28-3n%29%5E2%2A%284n%5E9%29%5E2=144n%5E%2820%29. The number is only that high because you essentially have 2 pairs of 9 'n's being multiplied (18 total so far) plus 2 more 'n's to throw in.

-3*-3*4*4 is the same as 12*12=144
9+9+2=20
