Question 302039: Here's another accuplacer practice question that I have no clue about: "write the slope intercept form of the equation (-2,0)and (7,4). The answer that lights up correct is Y=4/9x + 8/9. Can someone tell me why this is correct, and in general , how to write slope intercept forms? Thanks lots.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! general slope-intercept is ___ y = mx + b ___ where "m" is the slope and "b" is the y-intercept
___ the y-intercept is the value of "y" where the line crosses the y-axis ("x" is zero at this point)
start by finding the slope ___ the change in "y", divided by, the change in "x"
m = (4 - 0) / (7 - -2) = 4/9
use the general equation, and substitute one of the points to find "b"
y = (4/9)x + b ___ 4 = (4/9)7 + b ___ 4 = (28/9) + b ___ 8/9 = b
so the slope-intercept equation is ___ y = (4/9)x + (8/9)
