Question 30063: when solving a system of two linear equations, how is an inconsistent system identified?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The following system is inconsistent.
x+y=6
x+y=2
If you subtract one from the other you find
that 0=4.
That is evidence that the system is inconsistent.
Geometrically the lines are parallel.
