Let b = the larger number
given:

By substitution,
3a+=+2a+%2B+20
subtract 2a from both sides
a+=+20
and, since
b+=+2a
b+=+2%2A20
b+=+40
The numbers are 20 and 40
check:
3a+=+b+%2B+20
3%2A20+=+40+%2B+20
