Question 29973: Julieta ran a marathon of 26 miles in 3.5 hours. During part of the race she ran at 6 miles per hour, and the rest of the time she ran at 8 miles per hour. How long did she run at each speed?
Any help on how to write the equation to find the answer would be greatly appreciated.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let the hours of running time at 6mph be x
Let the hours of running time at 8mph be y

x+y=3.5
y=3.5-x (subsitution)

Equation:
--->subsitute:

y=3.5-1
y=2.5

Hence, she ran for 1 hour at 6mph and 2.5 hours at 8mph.
