Question 29947: The ratio of a mans federal income tax to state income tax is 11 to 5. If the man pays a total income tax 30,000, how much was paid to the federal government and how much was paid to the state? Can you show all of the work. Thanks for your help Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let "x" be the amount of state tax; then 30,000-x is the amount of fed. tax.
11/5 = (30000-x)/x
11x=150000-5x
16x=150000
x=$9375 (amount of state tax)
30000-x=$20625 (amount of fed. tax)
