Question 299455: For each system find the values of a and b so that the solution set to the system is {(5, 12)}.
y=3x+a
y=-2x+b
I have been working through similar problems but I am stuck with this one. I really have no clue how to solve this particular one. Can you help me?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Hint: If the given solution is (5,12), then this means that x=5 and y=12. Plug these values into the system to get

system%2812=3%285%29%2Ba%2C12=-2%285%29%2Bb%29

and simplify to get

system%2812=15%2Ba%2C12=-10%2Bb%29

You can see that you now have two equations in which you can directly solve for both 'a' and 'b'.
