The first thing you need to have are "similar" polygons, like similar triangles or similar quadrilaterals and so on.
Similar polygons have the same shape but not necessarily the same size, and in similar polygons, corresponding sides are proportional and corresponding angles are congruent.
Corresponding angles in two similar polygons would fall on top of each other if the polygons were placed one on top of the other and they were the same size and in the same orientation.
