Legend let x=1st number x+x+1=140
let x+1=2nd number Answer by richwmiller(17219) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! The numbers are 62 and 78
Be a bit more careful with your spelling. algeraically slove dont
A good math student is careful about details.
x+y=140
x-y=16
add the 2 equations
2x=156
x=78
y=78-16=62
The second number can't be x+1 since the difference is 16.
If you had continued with x+x+1 you would have
2x+1=140
2x=139
x=139/2=
x=69.5
