simplify (1+i)to the 2nd power
(1+i)^2 = 1^2+(i)^2+2X(1)X(i)
(using (a+b)^2 = a^2 +b^2+2ab where here a = 1 and b= i )
=1-1+2i ( the value of i^2 = -1 )
=0+2i
=2i
