Starting with 3x+4=2x-6
Subtract 2x from each side:
+3x%2B4+-+2x+=2x-6+-+2x+
combine like terms:
+highlight%283x%29%2B4+%2Bhighlight%28-+2x%29+=highlight%282x%29-6+%2Bhighlight%28-+2x%29+

We now have
+x+%2B+4+=+-6+
Now subtract 4 from each side:
