You can put this solution on YOUR website! The function of x is the y value. What the question is asking is what is the interval(s) when the function is positive, which means what are the x values when y>0. If our graph looked like this...
...we would say the interval for which x is positive is OR (look at the x axis if this is confusing)
and the interval for which x is negative would then be: which is read as -5 is less than x which is less than 2.
