You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A field goal kicker can kick the football 45 yards into the wind.
In identical conditions, kicking with the wind, the ball travels 70 yards.
:
a) find the distance the kicker can kick with no wind. answer in units of yards.
Let x = the distance he can kick with no wind
Let w = the distance controlled by the wind
:
x - w = 45
x + w = 70
------------addition eliminates w, find x
2x = 115
x = 115%2F2
x = 57.5 yds kicking dist with no wind
:
b) find the distance controlled by the wind. answer in units of yards.
Find w using the "with the wind" equation
57.5 + w = 70
w = 70 - 57.5
w = 12.5 yds controlled by the wind
