"linear" is the word. It means relating to a line.
Linear equations have one or two variables and neither of them has a power greater than one.
The standard version is ax+by=c
a or b could be zero.

Both x and y have an exponent of one. --> linear

It is linear because there are no exponents in the equation.
For example 3x^2 would curve.
